Council Seeks Council Seat In Newark, Launches Re-Election Campaign In South Ward
"Serving the people of the South Ward has been an honor, and the work is far from done," Patrick Council said.

NEWARK, NJ — Patrick Council has officially thrown his hat into the ring for re-election to the Newark City Council in 2026.
Council – the current South Ward council representative – launched his re-election campaign on Tuesday. He is running on a common slate with Mayor Ras Baraka under the slogan “Let’s Continue Moving The South Ward Forward.”
First elected to serve the South Ward in 2022, Council said he has focused his tenure on “delivering practical results, responsive leadership, and consistent advocacy for neighborhood priorities.”

According to a campaign statement, some of Council’s focuses have included creating more affordable housing, investing in local nonprofits, improving public safety and infrastructure, addressing illegal construction, spurring economic development and supporting community programs.
“Serving the people of the South Ward has been an honor, and the work is far from done,” Council said.

“I don’t see this role as a title, it’s a responsibility,” he added. “I’m running for reelection because the South Ward deserves leadership that doesn’t slow down.”
