COUNCILMAN RAMOS PRESENTS NEWARK TEEN WITH SCHOLARSHIP

NEWARK (July 7, 2016) -- On Wednesday evening, June 22, North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos, Jr., attended the Park Elementary School graduation ceremony to present graduate Julissa Morales with a $500 scholarship from the Anibal Ramos Jr. Civic Association, a nonprofit serving the Newark community and youth.

During her tenure at Park, the Newark native won the Principal's Award and awards as a top debater in her league. She also took up martial arts and became an avid writer of poetry in drama. Morales is a lifelong resident of Newark and has been honored by members of city council and State Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-Essex) for her achievements.

In the fall Morales, 14, will use the scholarship money toward her studies at St. Timothy's School, a selective all-girls boarding school in Stevenson, Md. She hopes one day to pursue a career in either medicine or law.

Morales is a scholar at the Wight Foundation, a nonprofit that supports academically gifted Newark-area teenagers through boarding school and college.
