Crash On I-280 Kills Scooter Rider In Essex County: Police

A car hit an electric scooter rider on the Newark portion of the highway. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A car crash killed a 32-year-old electric scooter rider on I-280 in Essex County over the weekend, authorities said.

According to the New Jersey State Police, troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on the eastbound portion of the highway in Newark at 4:17 a.m. on Sunday.

A preliminary investigation showed that the scooter rider – whose name is being withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin – was hit by a Chrysler passenger car near milepost 13.8. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash, authorities said.
