Curlpalooza Coming To Newark For Celebration Of Hair, Culture

"It's so important for everyone – particularly women of color – to take time to celebrate their natural hair," a NJ assemblywoman says.

NEWARK, NJ — Hair can be more than a fashion statement… it can be a celebration of community.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, the Curlpalooza Natural Hair Festival will come to Newark’s recently reborn Hahnes Building. The event will include hair demos, a mega artisan marketplace, workshops, hair consultations, discounts to restaurants, a live DJ, gallery exhibits and dance performances.

The festival takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. at 50 Halsey Street in Newark. Learn more about this local event or purchase tickets.

Curlpalooza has drawn a big thumbs-up of support from Assemblywoman Angela McKnight, who represents the state’s 31st District (Bayonne, Jersey City).

McKnight, who recently sponsored a state bill that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of a person’s hairstyle, plans to speak about her proposed law at the festival.
