Cyphers On Corners: Newark Challenges Local Artists To Pick Up The Mic

NEWARK, NJ -- "Cyphers On Corners" is coming to Newark.

In an effort to give local residents and youth a positive and creative outlet this summer, city officials are challenging the best rappers and artists in the Brick City to come out and test their skills in public.

The sparring ground? A 16-bar challenge at select corners/intersections throughout Newark.

A limited number of walkups will be allowed on a first-come, first-served basis. A winner will be chosen from each location on August 3 for a chance to win the grand prize: a performance at the city's 2023 "24 HRS of Peace" event.

• NORTH: Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Garden Spires
• NORTH: Thursday, June 8, 2023, Broadway and Grafton
• NORTH: Tuesday, June 13, 2023, 7th Ave. and Clifton Ave.
• NORTH: Thursday, June 15, 2023, Broad St. and Oriental St.
• SOUTH: Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Clinton Pl. and Millington Ave.
• SOUTH: Thursday, June 22, 2023, Avon Ave. and 15th St.
• EAST: Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Pennington Court
• EAST: Thursday, June 29, 2023, Hyatt Court
