Delays, Cancellations At Major NJ Airport Sends Post-Christmas Travel Into Chaos
Flights are being cancelled hours before snow is expected to touchdown in New Jersey.
NEWARK, NJ — With what’s potentially going to be the largest snowstorm this winter so far, holiday travelers are rushing to fly home from Newark before the snowfall.
According to Newark Liberty International Airport’s website, 66 flights between 7 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. have been delayed so far, with 41 cancellations, as of 2:15 p.m. Friday.
Those numbers are expected to increase drastically as the day continues and the winter storm approaches.

Airport officials are asking travelers to budget extra travel time this weekend, saying that “it’s going to be busy.”
AAA estimates that roughly 2.8 million people will be leaving New Jersey after the holidays, a near record, with a growing number of those people traveling by plane.

Most of New Jersey can expect snowfall between 4 and 6 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts some areas of New Jersey could see up to a foot of snow along with sleet and rain Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

Nationally, there have been more than 16,000 flight delays on the day after Christmas, with more than 1,700 cancellations, according to FlightAware.com.
Officials encourage calling your airline for cancellation and delay updates before leaving for the airport.
