Dems Outnumber GOP In Essex County By Wide Margin: 2023 Election

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Things are looking blue in Essex County for the 2023 general election.
Earlier this month, the New Jersey Department of State released voter registration totals across the state, including for 571,711 voters in Essex County.
According to the election data, there are 296,902 registered Democrats in Essex County, as opposed to 59,756 Republicans – nearly five Democrats for each of their GOP peers.

It should be noted that there are also 209,734 unaffiliated voters in Essex County. In addition, the Republican Party will have an advantage this November that they haven’t been able to claim in nearly two decades: “Line A” on the ballot. Whether those factors will be enough to overcome a massive Democratic Party presence in Essex County will remain to be seen, however.

There are also thousands of voters registered with third parties in Essex County, including 1,248 registered with the Libertarian Party – the county’s third-largest total. Read More: Libertarians Standing Tall As Largest Third Party In New Jersey
As of Oct. 1, other third party totals include:
- Constitution Party – 1,100
- New Jersey Conservative Party – 943
- Green Party – 754
- Socialist Party of New Jersey - 643
- Natural Law Party - 466
- Reform Party of New Jersey – 165
