Dollar Store In Newark Robbed At Gunpoint: Police

Police are asking for the public's help identifying a person who allegedly robbed a dollar store in Newark at gunpoint.

NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a person who allegedly robbed a dollar store in Essex County at gunpoint earlier this week.

The robbery took place around 10 p.m. on Tuesday at the Family Dollar store on Bergen Street in Newark. When police arrived on the scene, the suspect had already fled the store, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, an armed suspect entered the store and demanded money from the cash registers. After putting the cash in a blue, plastic bag, the man fled the scene on foot. He was last seen east of Scheerer Avenue from Bergen Street.

Police said that the man was wearing a blue jacket, black sweatpants, old black and white Jordan sneakers, white headphones and blue latex gloves. (See below photo)

“While police are actively searching for the suspect as part of an ongoing investigation, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from our streets,” the Newark Department of Public Safety stated Thursday.
