Double Fatality After 3-Car Crash In Newark, Others Hospitalized

The hometowns of the deceased are still being verified, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Two people died in a fatal crash that involved three cars on Saturday in Newark, authorities said.

Police responded to the westbound lanes of the Raymond Boulevard Bridge in the city’s Ironbound section around 4 a.m. after getting a report about a car crash, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash, authorities said: a Ford Focus, a Dodge Durango and Subaru Outback.

The driver the Ford Focus – Anaji S. Ryan – and the passenger, Ayriella M. Hughes, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their ages and hometowns are still being verified, police said.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were transported to nearby hospitals, police said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau, which includes detectives from the Newark Fire Department, is investigating the crash. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s tip line at 877-847-7432.
