Double Shooting In Irvington Claims Newark Man’s Life

A double shooting in Irvington claimed the life of a Newark resident, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A double shooting in Irvington claimed the life of a Newark resident earlier this week, authorities said.

A pair of men were shot around 8 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Lyons and Union avenues, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Irvington Police Department.

Emergency responders transported one of the victims, to University Hospital. The other victim, Lawrence Peterson, 65, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:02 p.m., authorities said.
