Dozens Of Trees Planted At Ivy Hill Park In Newark

"As a highly developed area, Newark faces issues such as pollution, flooding and the urban heat island effect."

NEWARK, NJ — The NJ Tree Foundation partnered with the PSEG Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 30 trees at Ivy Hill Park in Newark on Tuesday.

The NJ Tree Foundation is a statewide organization dedicated to planting trees in New Jersey’s underserved communities, where the need is greatest. The NJ Tree Foundation is working with the Arbor Day Foundation, the world’s largest membership nonprofit dedicated to planting trees.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, trees can offer many benefits. Thriving urban forests can bolster human health, from encouraging physical activity to reducing respiratory illnesses stemming from air pollution. Urban trees filter the air by removing pollution, which improves a city’s overall air quality. They also reduce runoff of sediment, pollutants and organic matter into streams, improving our water quality. Trees may also help to reduce crime, lower stress levels and foster community pride.
