Driver Didn’t Stop After Hitting, Killing Newark Pedestrian: ECPO
A 42-year-old Newark resident died after a vehicle hit him near McCarter Highway and 4th Avenue, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — A Newark resident died after a vehicle hit him on Saturday, authorities said.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a vehicle struck Devere Rogers, 42, as he was walking in the area of McCarter Highway and 4th Avenue at 11:43 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the driver didn’t stop to offer aid or call for help, prosecutors said.

Emergency responders transported Rogers to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:09 a.m.
