East Orange Man, 20, Found With Gunshot Wounds After Newark Crash

Police found the 20-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds after a car crash in Essex County.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police are investigating the death of an East Orange resident who was found with fatal gunshot wounds after a car crash in Newark on Wednesday night.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Newark police responded to a report of gunfire on the 200-block of 4th Street at 9:43 p.m. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene, but learned there was a motor vehicle accident in the area of First Street and Sussex Avenue.

When police arrived at the crash site, they found Jayden Jarvis, 20, in the car, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Jarvis was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 11:16 p.m.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday; an investigation continues. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
