East Orange Man Dies In Newark Shooting; Investigation Continues

A 40-year-old East Orange resident was killed in a fatal shooting that took place in Newark, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — An East Orange resident was killed in a fatal shooting that took place in Newark on Sunday night, authorities said.

Newark police officers responded to the 300-block of Osborne Terrace at 8:43 p.m. after getting a report about gunfire in the area, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The officers found Deshaun Winston, 40, of East Orange, outside the location. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:59 p.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, which includes Newark detectives, is investigating the shooting. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s tip line at 877-847-7432.
