Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues Now Open

New Jazz Supper Club, Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues, is Now Open in The Heart of Downtown Newark

Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues, a restaurant established with the vision to resurrect a true jazz supper club, has officially opened in the heart of downtown Newark. The restaurant, whose namesake is attributed to its address, is located at 11 Clinton Street, between Broad Street and Mulberry Street in downtown Newark. Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues boasts a farm-to-table menu featuring homestyle dishes with a Cajun flair, paired with exceptional service and “smothered” with live jazz performances.

The brainchild of Paul Profeta and Charles Hunter, Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues is a concept conceived by Profeta to pay homage to Newark’s illustrious musical roots. Charles Hunter, an accomplished Harlem-based restauranteur, was recruited as general manager of Eleven Clinton and was commissioned to craft a concept to help drive the success of this new endeavor.

“We are thrilled that Eleven Clinton is now open to the public, allowing us to showcase our efforts to combine great food with great music,” said Charles Hunter, general manager of Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues. “We set out to create a simple yet authentic space that fuses traditional aspects of old school jazz clubs with fresh ideas that will resonate with the people of Newark and I think we’ve certainly achieved that.”

Eleven Clinton’s menu, created by renowned executive chef and author Dawn Tyson, combines southern comfort food flavors with Caribbean-style spices. Each dish is carefully crafted from scratch and utilizes fresh, organic, farm-to-table ingredients to truly highlight the complex flavor profile of the innovative menu selections.

The venue boasts a robust roster of live performances every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from some of the region’s top jazz bands. The Eleven Clinton stage is also a spectacle in and of itself, encompassed by windows that allow passersby and potential customers to catch a glimpse of the Eleven Clinton experience from the street.

The restaurant’s opening was funded by the Profeta Urban Investment Foundation, an organization established to help launch or expand minority businesses in Newark. Paul Profeta, the organization’s founder, has long been a driving force in Newark’s revitalization, helping to turn one business around at a time.

“Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues was created to evoke the feel of a traditional jazz club, a niche I felt was underrepresented in the current landscape of downtown Newark,” said Paul Profeta, founder of the Profeta Urban Investment Foundation. “By paying homage to this great city’s roots, I am confident that Eleven Clinton will become a place ‘to see and be seen’ before events at the Prudential Center and for an emerging after-work and weekend scene, and help to breathe a vibrant nightlife back into Newark.”

Eleven Clinton//Smothered Blues is open for lunch through the work week, and is open for Dinner Wednesday through Sunday, and serving brunch on the weekends.
