Federal Air Marshal Leaves Loaded Gun in Airport Bathroom Stall

Incident happened at Newark Airport, report says.

People have left all kinds of items behind in airport bathrooms: cell phones, wallets, keys.

But it’s not often that someone forgets a loaded handgun.

According to a report from NJ.com, an on-duty federal air marshal left his service firearm in a men’s bathroom stall at Newark Airport last month. The marshal then boarded the flight he was supposed to protect… without his gun.

An airport janitor discovered the loaded gun and alerted a supervisor, who sealed off the stall until Port Authority police arrived to secure the scene.

Police were able to trace the gun to the marshal via its serial number.

Representatives for the Port Authority Police and the Transportation Security Administration – the agency that regulates the air marshal program – declined to comment on the allegations in the report.
