Essex County Babysitter Pleads Guilty to Charges Stemming from Four-Year-Old's Death
Prosecutors: Young girl became trapped in a futon and died after woman left four children alone in apartment.

A Newark woman pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the 2014 death of a four-year-old girl she was babysitting.
According to prosecutors, Sykita Covington left four toddlers – none over the age of four – alone inside a North Munn Street apartment in May of 2014.
While she was gone, one of the young children, Naira Bennett, became trapped inside a futon which closed around her head and body. She was pronounced dead hours later.
