Essex County College Nursing Students Earn Pins

Irini Brassington, one of the grads, said that growing up in a family already in the med profession gave her a good start.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A group of 28 members of Essex County College’s Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Class of 2017 earned pins during a recent ceremony held in the college’s Mary Burch Theater in Newark.

During the Dec. 1 ceremony, several members of the graduating class explained why they entered the health care field. For Maplewood resident Irini Brassington, growing up in a family already in the medical profession provided her with a “good foundation.”

“Five years from now I may be a nurse practitioner or in a doctoral program, but LPN is a good first step for me,” said Irini, who served as the class president and received the Leadership Award.

Next up for the students is the National Council Licensure Examination for Licensed Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), a requirement to earn a state license, the college stated.
