Essex County Cops Spearhead Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive

Several schools, churches, food pantries and shelters in Essex County recently got a boost from an annual Thanksgiving donation drive.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Several schools, churches, food pantries and shelters in Essex County recently got a boost from an annual Thanksgiving donation drive.

Spearheaded by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, the yearly drive has been going on for more than 30 years. And like past years, 2022 was a success, officials reported.

In addition to providing Thanksgiving meals to local families in need, sheriff’s officers and staff also stocked the shelves of the food pantries at St. Ann’s Food Pantry, St. John’s Soup Kitchen, New Hope Baptist Church Food Pantry and St. Michael’s Food Pantry, among others.

“There are a lot of families out there that just don’t have the financial resources available to purchase food for Thanksgiving and the winter months,” Sheriff Armando Fontoura said.

“In some small way, our food drive will assist many families and community soup kitchens,” Fontoura said. “This community initiative underscores their wonderful spirit, care and concern for our neighbors.”
