Essex County 'Homeless Connect Day' Will Return For 2026: Food, Haircuts, Social Services
Dozens of community groups and nonprofits will be offering a hand-up to people experiencing homelessness on Jan. 28.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Dozens of community groups and nonprofits in Essex County will be offering a hand-up to people experiencing homelessness on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The 20th annual Essex County Project Homeless Connect Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Essex County College Gymnasium, 177 West Market Street in Newark.
The event will include free food, haircuts and health screenings. People experiencing homelessness will be able to get information about social services and other programs that can help them get back on their feet.

The event will also be used to get a tally for the annual Point-in-Time survey, which is done across New Jersey.
According to Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr., this year’s event is a collaborative effort between the county and more than 65 community and faith-based organizations.

“An event like this is a tremendous undertaking and we thank our many partners for their participation,” DiVincenzo said.
“By combining our resources more efficiently, we can provide assistance to our less fortunate residents,” he added.
