Essex County Husband Allegedly Stabbed Wife To Death, Manhunt Started: Authorities

Essex County authorities are searching for a man accused of fatally stabbing his wife in their home.

NEWARK, NJ -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that a warrant has been has been issued for the arrest of Steven Damon, 47, of Newark.

Damon has been charged with the murder of his wife Tanya Y. Morris, 46, of also of Newark, authorities said.

In addition to murder, Damon is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The weapon was a knife, authorities said.

Morris was fatally stabbed Friday morning in her Sylvan Avenue home at approximately 8 am. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:39 am.

Damon, who has two minor children with the victim, fled the scene. It is believed that he maybe traveling in New York state or south, police said.
