Ex-Mets ace Dwight Gooden was arrested again in New Jersey – this time for driving under the influence. It was the second time he was busted for intoxication in one month.

Gooden, 54, the ace of the 1986 World Series championship Mets team, faces a charge of driving while intoxicated after he was found traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way street in Newark, police said.

“It’s sad to see the continued problems of this former Mets’ star but it’s an example of the persistent scourge of drugs and alcohol in this country and the stranglehold they have on addicts,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

At approximately 11:10 p.m. on Monday, police patrolling the area of Ferry and Vincent streets conducted a motor vehicle stop of a 4-door 2012 black Chrysler observed driving in the wrong direction down the street.

EMS responded to the scene to evaluate Gooden, who was arrested and transported to University Hospital for further evaluation, police said.

According to The New York Post. Gooden was reportedly "a mess" when he was picked up near Ferry Street in the Ironbound section and had peed himself.

The incident comes one month after Gooden was busted by police in Holmdel while he was apparently driving at 1 a.m., according to authorities.

Gooden was arrested on June 7 in Holmdel and charged with possessing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

In that incident, Gooden was found possessing drug paraphernalia and having two small green plastic baggies containing suspected cocaine, according to the MCPO.

Gooden, a Piscataway resident, was also suspected of being under the influence of cocaine, according to the complaint. His court date was scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

During his career, which began in 1984, Gooden served as a pitcher for the New York Mets and New York Yankees. In 1985, he won the National League’s Cy Young Award.

Gooden's drug troubles date back more than 30 years. He admitted that he missed in the 1986 ticker-tape parade for the World Series team because he was high on cocaine.

His troubles first became public in 1987 when he tested positive for the drug. He was suspended for a month – just two years after he was the most dominant pitcher in baseball.

Since then, he has been in and out of trouble and served time in jail for his drug offenses.
