Family Of Essex County Prisoner Sues After His Stabbing Death: Report

The family of an inmate stabbed to death at the Essex County Correctional Facility filed a lawsuit in the wake of his death, a report says.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The family of an inmate stabbed to death at the Essex County Correctional Facility last December has filed a lawsuit in the wake of his death, a report says.

The civil rights lawsuit alleges that the county-run prison and its officers failed to protect the man from a violent inmate who attacked him multiple times before his death. The suit also accuses the jail’s medical provider, CFG Health Systems, of failing to care for the wounded inmate after he was stabbed, NJ.com reported Friday.

The prison, which is located in Newark, houses local detainees, and is also paid to hold other inmates from Union County and the U.S. Marshals Service.
