“Led by Gha’il Rhodes Benjamin, an award-winning spoken-word performance and recording artist, this fun interactive storytelling experience will help local students continue to learn about the history of Newark and its role in the Underground Railroad via art activities and a dynamic tour of the Shadow of a Face monument … Underwritten by Audible, the program was created in partnership with the City of Newark and the Newark Parks Foundation, and led by the Newark Museum of Art. Earlier this year Audible worked with the City of Newark to unveil a new monument honoring Harriet Tubman and celebrating Newark’s role in the history of Black liberation. The monument and its audio experience, titled Monumental: Harriet Tubman and Newark’s Liberation Movement, represents an innovative way that Audible has combined its work in neighborhood attraction, its pursuit of social change, and its revolutionary use of audio entertainment, all in one collaborative and cohesive community development initiative.”

In case of inclement weather, the experience will take place indoors at the Newark Museum of Art.
