Fatal Hit-And-Run In Newark; $5,000 Reward Offered To Arrest Driver

A stolen car hit and killed a man in Newark. Video footage shows two people running away from the scene of the crash, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place in Newark three years ago.

Public safety officials announced the reward on Thursday, which is being offered through the Essex County Sheriff’s Office Crime Stoppers Program.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office released the following details about the fatal hit-and-run:

“On September 12, 2021, 42-year-old Rajon Collins was hit by a red Jeep Grand Cherokee near the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 18th Street. The stolen vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck Collins. He was later pronounced dead at Rutgers University Hospital. Surveillance camera footage from the area shows two individuals fleeing from the vehicle after the crash.”
