Fatal House Fire In Newark; 4 Injured, 7 Left Homeless: Officials

NEWARK, NJ — A house fire in Newark on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a local resident, injured several others and left four families without a home, authorities said.

A pair of animals were also found deceased at the scene of the fire, which took place around 6 a.m. at a 2.5-story building on the 300-block of Summer Avenue, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

A total of 65 firefighters arrived to battle the blaze, authorities said.

The deceased man was found on the first floor of the home. A second male victim is reportedly in critical condition, and three other adults suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

Four families including seven adults have been relocated, authorities stated.

The Newark Fire Division’s arson unit is investigating the origin of the fire, authorities said. No additional information was immediately available.
