A fatal shooting claimed the life of a 28-year-old man in Newark, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A fatal shooting claimed the life of a 28-year-old man in Newark on Tuesday, authorities said.

Yasin Welch, 28, of Newark, was shot near Fairmount Avenue and Central Avenue. He was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m. at University Hospital.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the shooting, authorities said Wednesday.
