Fatal Shooting In Newark; Hillside Man Killed: Police
A shooting in Newark claimed the life of a 33-year-old Hillside resident, police said.
NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Saturday night in Newark.
Newark police responded to the area near 91 Frelinghuysen Avenue around 9 p.m. after receiving a report about a shooting. Arriving officers found “evidence of a shooting” at the scene, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Public Safety Department.
As the officers investigated, their peers from the 5th Precinct were notified about a male shooting victim that was in a vehicle on Clinton Avenue. The victim was later identified as the person shot on Frelinghuysen Avenue, authorities said.

The victim, Derrick Pinkett, 33 of Hillside, was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m., authorities said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is conducting an investigation into the shooting. Anyone with information can call the Prosecutor’s Tips Line at (877) 847-7432.
