Fatal Shooting, Stabbing In Newark; 3 Killed Last Weekend

NEWARK, NJ — Two separate violent encounters – a shooting and a stabbing – left three people dead in Newark last weekend, authorities say.

Two men were killed and a woman was injured in a shooting that took place around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety

Newark police responded to the 100-block of Shephard Avenue after getting a report about a shooting. Officers found three people wounded by gunshots.

Isaiah Cobb, 33, of Hillside, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 p.m.

Terrance Carroll, 51, of Newark, was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead on Saturday at 12:13 a.m.

A female victim was injured and is being evaluated at a local hospital, authorities said.

An investigation is ongoing; no arrests had been made as of Sunday. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.

FATAL STABBING

A fatal stabbing took place in Newark early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Newark police responded to the 300-block of Bloomfield Avenue at 3:19 a.m. after getting a report about a stabbing, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Police found the victim – Fernando Michael Villa Valdivieso, 26, of Newark – suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead at 3:58 a.m.
