Fatal Shootings In Newark, Irvington Claim 2 Lives
A pair of fatal shootings took place in Essex County leading up to the Independence Day holiday, authorities say.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A pair of fatal shootings took place in Essex County leading up to the Independence Day holiday, authorities say.
The first shooting took place on Tuesday evening in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Newark police responded to the 200-block of Park Avenue around 9:30 p.m. after getting reports about a shooting. The officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the scene, authorities said.

Emergency responders transported the unresponsive man to University Hospital in Newark. He was pronounced dead at 11 p.m.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending formal identification, prosecutors said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office homicide task force is investigating the shooting. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s tip line at 877-847-7432.
IRVINGTON SHOOTING
Another fatal shooting took place in Irvington on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Irvington police responded to the 1100-block of Grove Street at 1:26 a.m. after getting reports about a shooting in progress. Officers found a 17-year-old Irvington resident with gunshot wounds at the scene.
Emergency responders rushed the teen to University Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2:17 a.m., prosecutors said.
The victim’s identity is not being released due to his age, authorities said.
