Fatal Stabbing With ‘Machete-Style Knife’ In Newark; NJ Man Sentenced

A Monmouth County resident was sentenced to state prison in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place in Newark.

NEWARK, NJ — A Monmouth County resident was recently sentenced to 50 years in state prison in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place in Newark last year. His accomplice remains at large, authorities said.

Earlier this week, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced the sentence for Terrance Bailey, 35, of Cliffwood.

According to prosecutors, Bailey and an unknown accomplice chased Daniel Haas Jr., 28, of Newark, while brandishing a gun on Cathedral Court on Feb. 20, 2024.

Bailey and his accomplice caught up with Haas and killed him with a “machete-style knife,” prosecutors said.

Under the No Early Release Act, Bailey must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
