Fatal Stabbing In Newark; 55-Year-Old Victim Dead, Prosecutors Say

Newark police responded to an apartment and found a man suffering from a stab wound, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A fatal stabbing claimed the life of a Newark resident on Thursday, police say.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal stabbing of Oscar Escobar, 55.

Essex County prosecutors released the following statement about the stabbing:

“On Thursday, June 29, at 10:24 a.m., police responded to a report of an unresponsive man inside an apartment on the 300 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue in Newark. Police found Escobar suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:53 a.m.”

No arrests have been made. An investigation continues, authorities said Friday.
