Fatality In Essex County Prison Parking Lot; Officer Found Dead
Authorities are investigating a suspected suicide that took place in the parking lot of the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Authorities discovered the body of a correctional officer in the parking lot of a prison in Essex County on Tuesday afternoon. It is believed that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
The fatal shooting took place outside the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark. The victim was employed as a correctional officer at the prison, a county spokesperson confirmed.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that it is currently investigating a suspected suicide. No additional information was immediately available.
