A Newark firefighter broke his arm Tuesday night after a car hit him in the 700 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue in the city, according to officials.
The firefighter, whose name and age were not released, was stopping traffic on the avenue because of a sparking electrical wire when he was hit around 7:30 p.m., according to Capt. John Brown, a Newark Fire Department spokesman.
"He stopped traffic, started putting up cones and tape and then one driver went around the cones and hit the firefighter," said Brown.
