Flash Flood Alert in Newark
National Weather Service issues a cautionary warning for Sunday night.

The National Weather Service issued a cautionary flash flood warning on Sunday for several areas in Northeastern New Jersey, including Essex and Hudson counties.
The warning will remain in place until 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 31.

“Some locations that will experience flooding include Newark, Jersey City, Elizabeth, Bayonne, Hoboken, Plainfield, Bloomfield, Linden, Summit, Lyndhurst, Millburn, Secaucus, Harrison, Ridgefield, Orange, Union City, Kearny, Clark, Union and Clifton.”
The NWS cautioned motorists to use precautionary actions while driving in flood-prone areas of town.

“Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle in areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road. When encountering flooded roads, make the smart choice. Turn around. Don’t drown.”
Additional weather alerts for the region include torrential rainfall, winds up to 40 mph, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and the chance of pea to nickel size hail.
