Foundation Donates Backpacks In Newark To Honor Late School Officer

The Ricardo J. Barbosa Foundation, Inc. recently announced the results of the Second Annual Back-to-School Book Bag Drive. The Foundation distributed 350 book bags amongst the following schools in the East Ward of Newark, NJ: Ann Street, Lafayette, Hawkins, East Ward Elementary, Oliver and Wilson Avenue schools. The Back-to-School drive is dedicated to honoring the memory of Ricardo J. Barbosa, a beloved School Resource Officer from the 3rd Precinct of the Newark Police Department in the Ironbound who made a lasting impact on our community through his unwavering commitment to the children’s safety and education.

The Foundation is deeply grateful for the in-kind support from EmpireCLS located in Secaucus; New Mad Corporation located in Newark, and for family, friends, colleagues, neighbors and Councilman Michael Silva who supported us making this year’s drive successful by doubling the amount from last year of 166 book bags.

The Back-to-School Book Bag Drive provided students from the East Ward with essential school supplies, including book bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, folders and other educational materials. The drive aimed to ensure that the schools have the resources available for the children to start the school year prepared and with the confidence to succeed academically.

Officer Barbosa was known for his dedication to creating a safe and supportive environment for students. In memory of Ricardo J. Barbosa, this annual event strives to continue his legacy of support and community involvement. Ricardo J.
