GoFundMe Helps Newark Families Get Ready For Next School Year
A Newark community center is raising money to help local families afford school supplies as prices at the store keep rising.
NEWARK, NJ — Newark's Chances Community Center has launched an online fundraiser to support a school supply drive for local students.
The GoFundMe will help support the community center's efforts to help families who are still struggling financially after the COVID-19 pandemic and current inflation.
"The truth is that the inflation in our economy affects families across the country," the community center said. "With school starting soon, we want to prevent parents or students from worrying about supplies for this upcoming school year so that they may focus on their kids' or personal education and growth."

In fact, about one-third of back-to-school shoppers are cutting back on spending in other areas to cover the cost of items for the upcoming school year, according to a new trends survey released by the National Retail Federation.
Nancy Febus Melendez and Michele Sanchez founded Chances Community Center in October 2020, the website says. The center is at 242 Jefferson Street in Newark.
