NEWARK, NJ — Oso loves to venture outside on walks. But getting the fun-loving dog back in the kennel is another story, according to staff at the Associated Humane Societies-Newark (AHS).

Earlier this week, the AHS-Newark branch shared a post about Oso, a dog who is “struggling” at the shelter. Staff wrote:

“This gorgeous 4-year-old Shepherd Labrador mix has been in the shelter since late March and is really struggling. He loves to venture out on walks with the volunteers where he strolls around sniffer to the ground and smile on his face. Getting him back in the kennel is another story all together. He will absolutely not budge, he never wants to go back inside. His most recent stroll outside took almost an hour to persuade him inside with a lot of treats. We just feel so bad for this great boy! We would love to see him in a home, rescue, foster- anything to get him away from the shelter.”

According to his listing on the AHS-Newark website:

“At just 4-years-old, Oso is already looking for a new family after being surrendered. This boy has absolutely captured our hearts. After being surrendered Oso was very afraid, but getting to know our staff and volunteers helped bring this cutie out of his shell. When first meeting Oso he can be shy at first, but don't think he doesn't like you. Oso is a great boy and very friendly once he's comfy around you. This big boofer walks really well on leash and is very happy to go on walks. Oso would love to go to an adult only home where he could be exercised with fun activities like walks, hikes and even fetch. Meet this hunk Monday to Friday from noon to 3:30 p.m., walk-ins welcome, and Saturday/Sunday by appointment only … give us a call to book at (973) 824-7080.”
