Gun Pointed At Newark Resident During Home Invasion: Police

Two men tried to steal an electric bike in Newark. Here's what happened next, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for a man who allegedly pointed a handgun at a victim during a home invasion that took place last weekend, authorities announced Monday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the incident took place around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. The suspect and another male suspect attempted to steal an electric bike from a residence on Elm Street.

“Owners of the electric bicycle chased the suspects and retrieved it after an altercation. As the owners were filing a robbery report at the Franklin Street precinct, the suspects returned to the owner’s Elm Street home, where they kicked in the door brandishing a weapon. They confronted a basement tenant, demanding that the tenant return their cell phone. The suspects then fled from the residence.”

The first suspect – who allegedly pointed the gun – is “tall” and “skinny” and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, police said (see photo below).

The second suspect is a male with brown hair and a medium build. He was wearing a blue and white jacket and multi-colored pants.
