Hammer-Wielding Thieves Smash Up Newark Store, Steal Jewelry: Police

Four men used hammers to smash display cases at a business in Newark. They stole jewelry and made their escape, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for four men who smashed up a store and stole jewelry last weekend, authorities announced Monday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the incident took place on Saturday. Here’s what happened, authorities said:

“At approximately 1:40 p.m., four males entered Brick City Gold, a jewelry store on the 100-block of Market Street. They had hammers and smashed the display cases, taking custom-made jewelry before fleeing in a Ford Explorer SUV.”

The suspects ranged from 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 9 inches. Three had thin builds and the other was heavyset. They were wearing black clothing, ski masks and gloves, police said (see surveillance photos below).
