High School Cheerleader Hit By Car Near Newark School: Reports

A teenage pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Newark, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A teen was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Newark on Sunday night, authorities said.

The collision – which left an 18-year-old pedestrian in critical condition at University Hospital – tool place around 10:15 p.m. on the 500-block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Multiple reports identified the injured pedestrian as a student cheerleader, who had just returned to Newark Arts High School on a school bus after a competition.

The teen apparently tried to cross the street at the time of the crash, but a car went around the bus and struck her, ABC7 New York reported. Her belongings were left scattered on the ground after the collision, RLS Media reported.

No arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon, authorities said.
