“With approximately 98,170 people struggling with food insecurity in Essex County alone, the time for action is now. Hip Hop Against Hunger combines the power of music and community to make an impact in the lives of those who need it most. Since 2010, Founder Elgin Cintron has collected and distributed over 3,000 pounds of food, 500 bags of clothing & toiletries, and $1,500 in funds, all donated to local food banks and homeless shelters throughout his native Florida and current home of New Jersey.”

This year, Cintron has set a goal to raise at least 2,000 pounds of food and $2,000, which will benefit New Jersey’s largest homeless shelter, the YMCA of Newark and Vicinity. The event is free to the public, but attendees are encouraged to bring a donation of non-perishable food, toiletries, clothing and supplies. Volunteer opportunities are also still available.
