Historic Forest Hill House And Garden Tour Returns To Newark This Weekend
The tour's 12 stops feature a variety of distinctive architectural treasures.

The Forest Hill Community Association is bringing back its much-anticipated Historic Forest Hill House & Garden Tour on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Newark’s North Ward. The tour’s 12 stops feature a variety of distinctive architectural treasures, including a house of worship with roots in the late 19th-century abolitionist movement.
“Forest Hill is one of Newark’s great treasures, with a rich history and stunning architecture that reflect the pride and character of our North Ward community,” said North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr.

“This tour gives residents and visitors alike a unique opportunity to experience these beautiful homes and gardens up close while celebrating the neighborhood’s important place in Newark’s history and future,” Ramos said.
A number of homes on the tour have served as locations for motion pictures and commercials and one home was a compound for Newark’s most famous opera singer.

"The beautiful and historic architecture found in Newark’s Forest Hill neighborhood adds tremendous value to the city’s growing film and television industry," said Desireè L. Hadley, Director of the City of Newark's Office of Film & TV. As we continue to strengthen Newark’s reputation as a premier destination for film and TV production, the Forest Hill community continues to stand out as a highly sought-after location for production companies," Hadley said. "Homes throughout the neighborhood have been featured in films and television productions such as The Whisper Man, American Sports Story: Gladiator, Rob Peace, and many more. Forest Hill remains a cornerstone of the City of Newark."
The tour starts at the Ballantine Gates at Lake Street and Ballantine Parkway, where tickets will also be available on the day of the event. Advance ticket holders can check in at FHCA’s table to collect maps and wristbands, which serve as entry passes for this self-guided walking tour. Stroll at your own pace or hop on a free trolley provided by Essex County.
