Hit-And-Run In Newark; Driver Struck Victim Twice, Police Say

A car jumped a curb and struck someone. The driver put his car in reverse and hit the person again, then drove away, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle who allegedly committed a hit-and-run in Newark earlier this week, authorities announced Monday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the incident took place around 3 a.m. on Friday, when a man driving a silver Ford Taurus drove onto the curb of Grove Street (between Grain Street and Central Avenue) and struck a man.

The driver put the car in reverse and hit the victim a second time, then fled eastbound on Central Avenue. Surveillance video also shows the vehicle heading eastbound on West Market Street, police said (see photos below).

An off-duty police officer saw the incident and aided the victim, who was treated for injuries at University Hospital, authorities said.

The Taurus had a license plate with New Jersey registration “L70RGX,” police said.
