Homeless Outreach Event Returning To Essex County For 2025

Available services will include health screenings, social services, employment aid and free haircuts.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — It will be a day to help people get themselves on a path to a better future, Essex County officials say.

The county will be partnering with more than 65 local community groups to back its annual Project Homeless Connect Day on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The outreach event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Essex County College Gymnasium, 177 West Market Street in Newark.

“Homeless residents visiting Essex County College will have access to information about available programs and services specifically geared for homeless clients. Among the services being offered are: public assistance, health screenings, mental health services, emergency services, educational services, veterans services, employment services and free haircuts.”

The annual outreach event will also coincide with a statewide “Point in Time” count of all homeless residents in New Jersey. See Related: Homelessness Is Surging In Essex County, Latest Data Shows

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said this year’s Project Homeless Connect Day will help raise awareness about some important programs and services.

“An event like this is a tremendous undertaking and we thank our many partners for their participation,” DiVincenzo said. “By combining our resources more efficiently, we can provide assistance to our less fortunate residents.”
