How To Create Change For Young Men Of Color In Newark: Report

The My Brother's Keeper Newark report says there are six "key life milestones" that can help to create change on a systemwide basis.

NEWARK, NJ — Opportunity Youth Network recently released a report that makes several suggestions for creating systemic change for young men of color in Newark.

The My Brother's Keeper Newark report – “Driving Systemic Change for Boys and Young Men of Color in Newark Through Collaboration, Coordination and Partnership” – can be seen online here.

The report says there are six “key life milestones” that can help to create change on a systemwide basis. They include:

  • Entering school ready to learn
  • Reading at a 3rd grade level
  • Graduating from high school
  • Completing post-secondary education or training
  • Becoming successfully employed
  • Remaining safe from violent crime

Partner organizations that were involved in the production of the report included The Victoria Foundation, Advocates for Children of New Jersey, The Devils Youth Foundation, MBK Alliance, The MCJ Amelior Foundation, The New Jersey Children’s Foundation, The Obama Foundation, The Prudential Foundation and the Solon E. Summerfield Foundation.
