A total of 357 jobs may be cut at these companies with a footprint in Newark, according to a state database.

NEWARK, NJ — Hundreds of layoffs may be coming at three companies with a footprint in Newark, according to a state database.

The latest Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notices on the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development website include a total of 357 jobs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ, Prudential Financial Inc., and Joey's Fine Foods.

According to the state database, here are the impacted workforce numbers and effective dates:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ – 242 workers, effective April 26
  • Luna Foods (dba: Joey's Fine Foods) – 61 workers, effective June 5
  • Prudential Financial – 54 workers, effective May 7 to June 7

WARN notices offer protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of plant closings and mass layoffs.
