Hundreds Of Qur’ans, Prayer Items Donated To Muslim Inmates At ICE Prison In NJ
The essential religious items helped detainees to observe the Ramadan holiday.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Hundreds of essential religious items were recently donated to Muslim detainees at a federal immigration prison in Newark to help them observe the Ramadan holiday.
The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ), Justice For All, and ICNA Council for Social Justice recently partnered on the effort at Delaney Hall. Volunteers with EyesOnICE helped to carry boxes, and the items were received by the facility chaplain.
Items collected and donated included copies of the Qur’an, prayer mats, prayer beads, hijabs, kufis, religious books and dates for breaking their fast.

“These Qur’ans and other religious items are not symbolic gestures – they are essential for Muslims to fulfill their daily religious obligations,” CAIR-NJ operations director Dyaa Terpstra said.
Ramadan – which began in February and ended last week – is the holiest month in Islam, observed by millions of Muslims worldwide. It is a time of fasting, worship, reflection, self-discipline and community service.
