Inmate Commits Suicide At Essex County Prison, Investigation Continues
The Essex County Correctional Facility is the largest county-run prison in New Jersey.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ -- An inmate recently committed suicide at a prison in Essex County, authorities say.
An inmate incarcerated at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark took his own life on Feb. 28, a county spokesperson said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the death, he added. No additional information was immediately available.
There were six inmate deaths and 14 attempted suicides reported at the Essex County Correctional Facility in 2022.
