Ironbound District Announces New Officers for 2020
Manuel Lopes Elected President; Steven T. Yglesias President Emeritus.

The Board of Directors of the Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID) elected new officers for 2020 at the organization’s Annual Meeting in December.
Manuel Lopes, longtime Ironbound business and property owner and a founding member of the IBID, was elected President. Former President Steven T. Yglesias will now serve as President Emeritus. Hal Laessig, principal of Newark Metametrics and co-founder of the Sumei Multidisciplinary Arts Center, was reelected to the First Vice President position. Elsa Rodrigues, District Property Manager, Paramount Assets, was elected as Second Vice President, Retired businessman Renato Baptista will return as Treasurer, and Betty Spiropolous, Vice President, Market Manager, Two River Community Bank, was elected Secretary.
Tony Martinez, the owner of Mompou Tapas Wine Bar Lounge and the Spanish Tavern restaurant, was appointed as the newest member of the IBID’s Board of Directors. Leysly Roldan was reelected as Assistant Secretary and Notary.

IBID Executive Director Seth A. Grossman thanked Yglesias for his many years of leadership as the IBID’s President and his commitment to the needs of all members of the Ironbound community including business owners, residents and visitors.
He also pointed to the diversity of the board as one of the organization’s strengths. “Our board members include business and restaurant owners, district residents, retail and professional service providers, men and women representing the Ironbound’s many different cultures,” added Grossman. “All share a commitment to the Ironbound and to Newark and are contributing to the community partnerships that are the hallmark of the IBID’s efforts to improve quality of life and business activity in the district.”
